The BBC has dropped all remaining scheduled programmes on BBC One and BBC Two for the rest of the day following the death of Prince Philip at the age of 99.
In a statement from Buckingham Palace, it was announced that the Duke of Edinburgh had passed away at Windsor Castle on Friday morning, one month after his release from hospital for treatment of an infection and a heart condition.
BBC One broke into an episode of Paramedics On Scene at 12.09pm in order to break the news and will now air continuing coverage until at least Saturday morning.
The news means that tonight's final episode of MasterChef, the latest episode of EastEnders and the return of Have I Got News For You have all been postponed.
BBC Two has also suspended all programming - provisionally until Saturday morning - and will simulcast BBC News along with BBC One.
A BBC spokesperson said: "With the sad news that HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, has died, there is now special coverage across all BBC networks to mark his life of extraordinary public service and planned scheduling has been suspended."
BBC Parliament has also joined the simulcast, although as it stands BBC Four is scheduled to broadcast its regular programming, including live coverage of the women's international football game between France and England, from 7pm.
