Andrew Neil is reportedly close to agreeing a deal with Channel 4 to present a new weekly political programme.

The veteran journalist left the BBC in 2019 to take up a position as the lead presenter on GB News, but he departed the channel after just a few months in acrimonious circumstances.

On Sunday night Neil will host a one-off programme for C4 looking at the current crisis surrounding Boris Johnson, and according to Broadcast, he is now set to join the broadcaster on a permanent basis.

The proposed new programme would air on Sunday nights, most likely in the 7pm hour after Channel 4 News.

Neil had also been in discussions with the BBC about a potential return to the corporation prior to his proposed Channel 4 move.
