Simon Cowell hospitalised in Malibu with broken back

Simon Cowell breaks his back while testing his new electric scooter at his home in Malibu.

Simon Cowell is in hospital with a broken back after falling off his electric scooter in Malibu, his representative has confirmed.

The 60-year-old media mogul has been staying at his California mansion with son Eric and long-term girlfriend Lauren Silverman in recent weeks ahead of the start of the live rounds of America's Got Talent on Tuesday.

Cowell was snapped test driving his new electric scooter by paparazzi on Saturday morning but just hours later suffered a painful fall.

"Simon has broken his back and will be having surgery this evening," a spokesperson confirmed.

"Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family.

"He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He's doing fine, he's under observation and is in the best possible hands."

It remains unclear whether Cowell will be well enough to feature on Got Talent this week.
