The pair, who have only been competing together for a few months, were pipped to silver by just two points in the final round as experienced German duo Patrick Hausding and Sascha Klein edged ahead.

Daley and Goodfellow's six-dive routine included a 91.02 score for their penultimate effort, the forward 4-1/2, contributing to an overall total of 446.40 to secure Team GB's first medal of the Cup and an Olympics qualification place.

Germany were just ahead with 448.44 while gold went the way of China's Chen Aisen and Lin Yue, who amassed a total of 456.00.

Ivan Garcia and German Sanchez, competing under the FINA banner following Mexico Swimming's suspension, decided not to return to the competition after events were interrupted for 45 minutes by a lightning strike.
