China take gold, silver in women's 3m

China take gold and silver in the women's 3m event on day two of the World Diving Series in Beijing.

China's dominance at the Beijing meet of the FINA World Series has continued into day two as the host nation claimed the top two podium spots in the women's 3m springboard.

Shi Tingmao, who already won gold with partner Wu Minxia in yesterday's 3m synchro, added to her collection with individual top honours after amassing a total score of 389.60.

Teammate He Zi retained her silver medal from last year's competition with a final score of 372.90.

The battle for bronze came down to Canadian synchro pair Jennifer Abel and Pamela Ware, who finished third last year. Abel had been on course for silverware but a disastrous final dive of 43.50 allowed her teammate to edge ahead with a final score of 335.25 to 331.30.

Britain's hope in the discipline, Commonwealth gold medallist Rebecca Gallantree, was eliminated at the semi-final stage earlier in the day.

Results in full:

1. Shi Tingmao (CHN) - 389.60
2. He Zi (CHN) - 372.90
3. Pamela Ware (CAN) - 335.25
4. Jennifer Abel (CAN) - 331.30
