Russia's Ilya Zakharov wins the gold medal in the men's 3m springboard to end China's 100% record in the Olympic diving.

Russia's Ilya Zakharov has won the gold medal in the men's 3m springboard to end China's 100% record in the Olympic diving.

The 21-year-old turned in a sublime performance to edge out silver medal winner Qin Kai with a flawless forward 4 1/2 somersault in the final round.

Zakharov racked up a final score of 555.90, more than 14 points ahead of the Chinese sensation's tally of 541.75.

Qin's compatriot He Chong deep on his final dive, pulling off a strong forward 2 1/2 somersault 3 twists to knock Germany's Patrick Hausding off the podium and take the bronze.

Team GB's Chris Mears put in a consistent performance, and was unlucky not to end up higher than ninth with his score of 439.75.
