Michael van Gerwen, Robert Thornton to meet in World Grand Prix final

Michael van Gerwen and Robert Thornton will meet in Saturday's World Grand Prix final after beating Mark Webster and Mensur Suljovic respectively.

Michael van Gerwen is one match away from defending his World Grand Prix title after defeating Mark Webster in the semi-finals in Dublin.

The world number one dropped just two sets on the way to the last four but he found himself in a competitive match with Webster, who levelled the contest at one set all with a 103 checkout.

However, Van Gerwen pressed ahead during the second half of the encounter to wrap up a 4-1 triumph over the left-hander, which sets up a clash with Robert Thornton.

The world number seven found himself 1-0 and 2-1 down to Mensur Suljovic, who continued to show the form that had seen him overcome James Wade, Simon Whitlock and Vincent van der Voort earlier in the tournament.

The Austrian could not hold off the high scoring of Thornton, though, and the Scot reeled off the final three sets to come through by a 4-2 scoreline.
