Michael van Gerwen comes through Keegan Brown test

Defending champion Michael van Gerwen suffers a scare against Keegan Brown before prevailing 2-1 to reach the World Grand Prix second round.

Michael van Gerwen has progressed through to the second round of the World Grand Prix after recording a 2-1 victory over Keegan Brown.

After the opening two sets were shared, Brown hit a 152 checkout to move within two legs of the match but Van Gerwen held his nerve to reach the last 16.

The defending champion will now play Kim Huybrechts, who came from a set down to defeat Benito van de Pas to register his first victory at the event.

Adrian Lewis made light work of five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld, dropping just one leg on the way to a comfortable win, and he will now face Mark Webster, who got the better of Stephen Bunting.

Dave Chisnall and Michael Smith both made it through to the second round, but only after they survived four and two match darts respectively against their opponents Peter Wright and Gerwyn Price.

In the opening match of the night, William O'Connor missed two darts to progress before falling to a 2-1 defeat to Jamie Lewis, before Sunday's play ended with Jelle Klaasen edging out former finalist Brendan Dolan.
