Wes Newton dumps out Steve Beaton

World number eight Wes Newton books his place in the last eight of the Players Championship Finals by defeating Steve Beaton 9-3 in Minehead.

World number eight Wes Newton booked his place in the last eight of the Players Championship Finals on Saturday by defeating Steve Beaton 9-3 in Minehead.

Newton averaged 93.96, hit five 180s and had a double success rate of 56.25%.

Meanwhile, Beaton, who caused a shock by beating James Wade on Friday, was well below his best, averaging 81.49 and finding the target with just three of 11 darts at double.

Newton reached the semi-finals of this event in 2011, but he will have to overcome either Michael van Gerwen or Adrian Lewis if he is to repeat that feat this year.
