New Zealand fall to six-wicket defeat in Durban

South Africa storm to an opening T20 triumph over New Zealand in Durban by claiming a six-wicket victory.

South Africa have claimed a six-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first Twenty20 international at Kingsmead.

The hosts managed to reach the Black Caps' tally of 152 with 13 balls to spare in Durban.

Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson joint-top scored for New Zealand, both reaching 42 before being sent packing.

Things had started well enough for the tourists after a strong opening stand, finding themselves on 102-2 after Williamson and Guptill had been dismissed.

Colin Munro followed in the same over, however, being caught out by AB de Villiers for a golden duck.

Grant Elliot (5), Luke Ronchi (5), Nathan McCullum (2), Doug Bracewell (7*) and Adam Milne (2*) also failed to reach double figures to leave the Kiwis in a perilous position.

That allowed Morne van Wyk (19), De Villiers (33) and Rilee Roussouw (38) to propel the Proteas on their way to a comfortable victory in the T20 opener.
