The visitors, who were put in to bat first, made a score of 163-4 before bowling Sussex out for 129 with one over remaining.
top-scored for Somerset with a knock of 70, while Craig Kieswetter (18), Chris Jones (17) and Peter Trego (29 not out) also made significant contributions at the crease. Alviro Petersen took two wickets for the home side, with Steffan Piolet and James Anyon also getting in on the act. Chris Liddle 's unbeaten 36 and Yasir Arafat 's 25 helped the Sharks mount a solid challenge when it was their turn out in the middle, but a lack of runs at the top of the order saw them unable to finish successfully. Ed Joyce was devastating with the ball for Somerset as he ended with figures of 5-31, while Dirk Nannes , Craig Overton , Alfonso Thomas and Craig Meschede took the remaining wickets between them.
