India cruise past Sri Lanka in first one-day international

Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan star for India as they convincingly beat Sri Lanka by 169 runs in the first one-day international in Cuttack.

India have comfortably beaten Sri Lanka by 169 runs in the first of five one-day internationals in Cuttack this afternoon.

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl, but did not take a wicket until the 35th over as India openers Ajinkya Rahane [111] and Shikhar Dhawan [113] put on a 231-run opening stand.

Suresh Raina added a quickfire 52 before the hosts finished their 50 overs on 363-5.

It was a formidable task for Sri Lanka to reach that total and they never really threatened a remarkable chase.

Mahela Jayawardene top-scored with 43 off 36 balls and was the only Sri Lanka player to score a six.

The second ODI takes place in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
