Qais Ashfaq beaten by Bakhtovar Nazirov

Team GB boxer Qais Ashfaq loses his opening bout at the 2015 World Championships to Russia's Bakhtovar Nazirov courtesy of a split decision.

Team GB boxer Qais Ashfaq has been knocked out in his opening bout of the 2015 World Championships in Doha on Tuesday.

It was a tough opening draw for Ashfaq, with Bakhtovar Nazirov winning gold in the bantamweight division at the European Games in Baku earlier this summer.

Ashfaq led on two of the judges' scorecards after the second round, however, with the Brit landing the cleaner shots against his terrier-like opponent.

Nazirov came out firing in the third round, but Ashfaq kept his distance and appeared to have done enough to book his spot in the round of 16.

One judge scored the fight 29-27 Ashfaq, while the other two scored 28-28, but picked the Russian, who had a point deducted for using his head in the second round, on countback.
