Scott Quigg ruthlessly stops Stephane Jamoye in three rounds

Scott Quigg successfully defends his WBA super-bantamweight title with a third-round stoppage of Stephane Jamoye.

Scott Quigg has stopped Stephane Jamoye in three rounds to successfully defend his WBA super-bantamweight title.

After Carl Frampton won the IBF belt against Kiko Martinez last weekend, the 25-year-old was under pressure to fulfil his end of the bargain ahead of a potential clash between the two British fighters, and he did so in impressive style.

Quigg displayed his superior power in the first, regularly troubling the Belgian with shots to the body, although Jamoye did return at the start of the second with some offensive work of his own.

However, there was a feeling that it was an all-or-nothing approach from the challenger and, after he began to tire rapidly, Quigg took control and delivered the final blow in the third.

After pressing his opponent on the ropes, Quigg floored Jamoye with a vicious body shot that left the former European bantamweight champion struggling on the canvas, and although he got to his feet, the referee quickly called off the contest.

Promoter Eddie Hearn will now look to agree a deal with Frampton and Barry McGuigan for a mega winter fight in either Manchester or Belfast.
