Result: Mikey Garcia crowned WBO super featherweight champion

Mikey Garcia is the new WBO super featherweight champion by virtue of an eighth-round stoppage of Roman Martinez.

Mikey Garcia has ripped the WBO super featherweight title from Roman Martinez with a devastating eighth-round body blow at the American Bank Center in Texas.

The 25-year-old from California had to get up off the canvas in the second round after being floored by a rapid counter.

He did not let that deter him, as he took the next couple of rounds to get level on the cards before coming up with a big sixth to establish his control.

A powerful left hook to the body ended the contest with 56 seconds on the clock in the eighth round, meaning that Martinez's three-fight reign as champion is over.

The 30-year-old Puerto Rican beat Miguel Beltran Jr to win the vacant belt last year.
