Result: Martin Rooney progresses in 400m

Team GB's Martin Rooney qualifies for the 400m semi-finals after finishing third in his heat.

Martin Rooney has confirmed his passage into the 400m semi-finals at the Olympics after finishing second in his heat.

The British runner looked composed throughout as he held his position in the race to comfortably qualify behind Belgium's Kevin Borlee.

Rabah Yousif finished in third to join Rooney and Borlee in the semi-finals that will take place on Sunday.

Rooney has stated that he is aiming to record a new personal best at the Olympics.
