Great Britain's Steven Lewis missed out on an Olympic medal during tonight's men's pole vault final.

The 26-year-old needed to clear 5.85m to stand any chance of claiming a medal in front of a home crowd in London.

However, the Stoke-on-Trent-born vaulter was unable to succeed in any of his three attempts, which has seen him finish in joint fifth alongside Evgeniy Lukyanenko.

The gold medal went to Renaud Lavillenie, whose clearance of 5.97m is a new Olympic record.

German duo Bjorn Otto and Raphael Holzdeppe took silver and bronze respectively.
