Transport for London are warning spectators and commuters alike to expect long delays in the capital this evening.

Spectators at the London Olympics, as well as commuters, are being warned to expect delays between the hours of 4pm and 7pm this evening.

Officials have encouraged those travelling to and from the Olympic Park to use the Hammersmith & City line, before walking the remaining 15 minutes to ease some of the congestion during rush hour.

Transport for London are also strongly advising people to avoid using London Bridge Station unless it is an absolute necessity to do so.

"London Bridge station will be exceptionally busy throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games as it is a key interchange station for both commuters and spectators. The station will be particularly busy with spectators travelling to the North Greenwich Arena, Greenwich Park, the Royal Artillery Barracks and the Olympic Park," read a statement on the TFL website.

"This station is expected to be extremely busy most days throughout the Games between 7.30am-12pm and 3.30-8pm. This station is also expected to be busier than usual in the late evenings, especially in the second week of the Olympic Games.

"Passengers are advised to avoid London Bridge station if possible during the Games and not use the station as an interchange."

Delays are also expected on the roads around Earls Court, where the volleyball is taking place, and Wimbledon, with tennis now into a third day.
