New York Jets fly high in win against Washington Redskins

The New York Jets follow up their win at Wembley with a 34-20 victory against the Washington Redskins.

The New York Jets returned off their bye to beat the Washington Redskins 34-20 in their NFL clash at MetLife Stadium this evening.

Washington got off to a good start, driving down the field on their first possession as Kirk Cousins found Pierre Garcon in the endzone for a two-yard touchdown.

A big passing play from Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to Eric Decker for 45 yards helped to set up a one-yard Chris Ivory touchdown to level the scores.

Ivory then pulled off a 49-yard run that would set up a Nick Folk field goal to give New York their first lead of the day.

The Jets would turn the ball over on their next drive as Brandon Marshall was stripped of possession by Bashaud Breeland, allowing Kai Forbath to kick his team back on terms with their hosts.

Breeland forced another turnover just before the half, picking off Fitzpatrick, which led to another Forbath field goal as the Redskins opened up a three-point advantage at the break.

The Jets levelled with a field goal at the start of the second half as Folk was required after they could not convert on third-and-short.

Darrelle Revis showed why New York paid him so much for his services a drive later, with the corner picking off Cousins for his sixth turnover of the season.

A play later, Fitzpatrick punished them as he found the space to run the ball home from 18 yards and score a rushing touchdown.

Marshall would make up for his earlier mistake by coming back for an under-thrown ball and running 35 yards for another Jets touchdown.

Marcus Gilchrist then forced another turnover, Cousins throwing his second pick, and Fitzpatrick subsequently found Decker for the score, this time on a two-yard reception.

The Redskins attempted to get back in the game with five minutes remaining, but they could not complete on fourth down from the one-yard line, giving the ball back to the home team.

However, after the Jets went four and out, Rashad Ross blocked the resulting punt and fell on the ball in the endzone to give the Redskins a touchdown which pulled them back into the game.

It was not enough in the end as New York go to 4-1 on the season while the Redskins go to 2-4, but are not out of things in a close NFC East.
