Great Britain's Ben Proud takes the bronze medal in the men's 50m freestyle at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha.

Great Britain's Ben Proud added another 50m freestyle medal to his collection as he claimed the bronze in Saturday's final at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha.

The 29-year-old - who became world champion in the event in 2022 - took third place for the third time, having also nabbed the final spot on the 50m freestyle podium during the 2017 and 2023 Championships.

Proud touched the wall in 21.53 seconds, just nine-hundredths of a second behind gold medallist Vladyslav Bukhov of Ukraine (21.44), who in turn edged out Australian silver medallist Cameron McEvoy (21.43) by 0.01 seconds.

Proud was one of two GB representatives competing in Saturday's finals, as Freya Colbert went for glory in the women's 200m backstroke, but the 19-year-old finished in last place with a time of 2:11.22.

Colbert was nearly five-and-a-half seconds behind the USA's Claire Curzan, who clocked 2:05.77 to win her fourth gold medal of the tournament, having also become world champion in the 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke and 4×100 m mixed medley.

Elsewhere, Italy's Simona Quadarella added to her women's 1500m freestyle title by triumphing in the 800m event, posting a time of 8:17.44, while Swedish veteran Sarah Sjostrom took 50m butterfly gold for a remarkable 13th long-course world title and 22nd overall medal, more than any other swimmer in history.

Finally, the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay crown went to China, who set a new Asian record with a time of 3:21.18 as Australia and the USA won silver and bronze respectively.
