Head coach Shaun Wane names six uncapped players in his England squad for the upcoming Rugby League World Cup.

Head coach Shaun Wane has selected six uncapped players in his England squad for the Rugby League World Cup.

On Thursday, it was revealed that experienced St Helens duo Jonny Lomax and Mark Percival would not feature due to concerns over recent long-term injuries.

Wane has responded by naming a group of 24 players with a quarter of the squad having not represented the senior side on the international stage.

Dom Young and Victor Radley are the standout newcomers due to representing Australian sides Newcastle Knights and Sydney Roosters respectively.

Herbie Farnworth, another representative of the NRL with Brisbane Broncos, Tom Burgess, Elliott Whitehead and Luke Thompson complete the list of uncapped players.

After the announcement, Wane said: "After so many conversations with the players over the last two years, it's exciting for all of us to be getting ready to go into camp for a home World Cup.

"The mood of the players and staff is fantastic. The opening match against Samoa in Newcastle is going to be a massive occasion, and I know English Rugby League fans and the sporting public will get behind us."

After the first match on October 16, England, who will be captained by Sam Tomkins, will also face France and Greece in Group A.
