Ludvig Aberg is selected as one of Luke Donald's six European captain's picks for the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome.

Europe Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald has selected Ludvig Aberg as one of his six picks for the upcoming edition of the event.

On Sunday, just 75 days after turning professional, Aberg won his first DP World Tour title with victory at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland.

The 23-year-old had been tipped to be selected even without success in that event having already claimed top-four finishes at the John Deere Classic and Czech Masters since June.

At the official announcement on Monday, Donald described Aberg as "a generational talent", tipping him to become a mainstay in the team over the next two decades.

Some of the other picks were formalities, with Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Justin Rose adding experience to what is a relatively young team.

There is also inexperience in the form of Sepp Straka and Nicolai Hojgaard, who edged out the likes of Adrian Meronk and Alexander Bjork who would have each felt in contention.

In the case of Meronk, he won the DP World Tour event at The Marco Simone Golf and Country Club back in May, and can count himself unlucky to miss out.

Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, Matt Fitzpatrick and Robert MacIntyre all qualified for the team automatically, the latter one of four rookies in the side.
