Faith Kipyegon won yet another gold medal for Kenya as she dominated the women's 1500m final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Faith Kipyegon has won the women's 1500m at a World Athletics Championships for a third time with a dominant display in Budapest.

While the Kenyan star had a number of rivals who had the capabilities to make a challenge, they all looked second best as she controlled the showpiece event on Tuesday.

Kipyegon largely led from the front, but it was her injection of pace in the closing stages that led the rest of the field scrambling for silver and bronze.

As Kipyegon came home in a time of 3:54.87, Ethiopia's Diribe Welteji was able to hold off the challenge of Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands for second.

Ireland's Ciara Mageean ran the race of her life to agonisingly finish in fourth place in a national record of 3:56.61 - 0.61 seconds adrift of third.

However, there was disappointment for Great Britain's Laura Muir as she had to settle for sixth in a time of 3:58.58.

Fellow British representatives Katie Snowden and Melissa Courtney-Bryant finished down the field in eighth and 12th position respectively.

Meanwhile, in the 400m semi-finals, Great Britain's Matthew Hudson-Smith qualified second-fastest for the final in a time of 44.26 seconds, a European record.

World-record holder Wayde van Niekerk was fortunate to make it through to the medal race after only making it through as a fastest loser.
