Todd Lodwick has said that it is an honour for him to carry the USA flag in the opening ceremony of the Sochi Games.

The 37-year-old Nordic combined skier will lead the largest delegation of American athletes in any Winter Olympics on Friday.

"Being nominated to carry the flag at the opening ceremony is one of the greatest honours that has ever been bestowed upon me," the Metro West Daily News quotes him as saying.

"I couldn't be more humbled and excited to be selected among all of the great athletes who were vying for this representation."

Lodwick is the second Nordic combined skier to carry the US flag after Rolf Monsen in 1936.
