Great Britain's men face curling playoff with Norway

Great Britain's men's curling team will face Norway in a tie-break match following a 6-5 loss to China.

Great Britain's men will play Norway in a tie-break match tomorrow to determine who goes through to the semi-finals after both European nations lost their final round robin matches.

Team GB lost 6-5 to China, while Norway went down 5-3 to Denmark.

Going into the match, David Murdoch's team knew that they had to match or better Norway's result to stand any chance of progressing to the semi-finals.

China and Great Britain each won one in the opening two ends before Murdoch played a good last stone to take the steal and put Team GB 2-1 up.

China manoeuvred themselves into a good position in the fourth end, but a well-placed final shot by Murdoch ensured that China only got two.

A scoreless fifth end meant that Great Britain went into the break 3-2 behind, but with Norway trailing Denmark by the same score at the halfway point, things were far from over.

The two qualification hopefuls stayed level as the both won one in the sixth end to bring the score in both matches the 3-3.

Team GB went 5-3 behind after losing the next two ends though, as their chances of progressing looked as thin as the ice they were playing on.

However, they clawed two back in the ninth end to bring them back level.

A few metres away, Norway failed to do their part, as they lost 5-3 to Denmark, meaning Great Britain only had to make sure they didn't lose the final end to progress.

However, China had the hammer in the final end, and with the last shot of the match they took one to secure victory, which means that Murdoch's team will return to the sheet tomorrow to face Norway in a tie-break game.
