Result: Maria Sharapova knocked out of Wimbledon by Angelique Kerber

Maria Sharapova is beaten by Angelique Kerber in the fourth round of Wimbledon.

Maria Sharapova has been knocked out in the fourth round of Wimbledon with a three-set defeat to Angelique Kerber.

The former champion lost the opening set 7-4 in a tie-break, but she was able to level the match by taking the second 6-4 thanks to two breaks of the Kerber serve.

However, the German ninth seed powered into a commanding 3-0 lead in the decider before sealing the win 7-6(4) 4-6 6-4 after converting her seventh match point.

Kerber will now face 13th seed Eugenie Bouchard of Canada for a place in the semi-finals.
