Madison Keys receives praise from Lindsay Davenport for her performance in the opening round of Wimbledon.

Former world number one Lindsay Davenport has tipped her fellow American Madison Keys to become one of the game's leading players.

Making her first appearance at Wimbledon earlier today, the 18-year-old recorded a 6-3 7-5 victory over Great Britain's Heather Watson in the opening round.

Reflecting on the youngster's performance, Davenport revealed that her nation has pinned their hopes on Keys coming good.

"Keys is a big rising star. A lot of us from the States have big, high hopes for her. She is our biggest hope in the last 10 or 15 years," she told BBC Sport.

"I think we saw two future top 20 players there but, unfortunately for Heather Watson, Keys is the better suited to grass."

Keys is currently placed 52 in the world standings.
