The 24-year-old squandered two set points and paid the price as Berankis bounced back to break serve and take a one-set lead on Court 13.

Goffin fought back in the second set, and after failing to convert five initial break points, the Belgian managed to take the advantage and draw level.

Berankis suffered a wobble in the third set as he lost serve early on, but the Lithuanian grabbed a crucial double break before regaining the lead in New York.

Berankis tried to make an early breakthrough in the fourth set as he brought up two break points, but Goffin was able to save them and eventually broke to push into a fifth and final set.

It was a frustrating start to the decider for Berankis as he initially saved five break points, but Goffin persisted and took a crucial break before moving into a 3-0 lead.

In the end, it was an easy set for Goffin as he wrapped up victory.
