Andy Murray says that the US Open site may be closed due to the threat of Hurricane Irene.

Andy Murray has said that the US Open site may be closed due to the threat of Hurricane Irene.

The hurricane is expected to hit the New York area later today (Saturday) and Murray admits that competitors have found it difficult to plan their practice times ahead of Monday's start.

"We were told on Sunday that the US Open site might be closed," he told Sky Sports News. "At some hotels they're going to make sure that everybody stays inside, no-one leaves, so we don't know really know exactly what's going to happen.

"I think a lot of the guys have got indoor courts booked, but it's been difficult because normally you'd want to practise a consistent amount most days. We'd like to get two, two and a half hours in, so I think everyone's been trying to work out the best way to play it."

Murray is scheduled to meet India's Somdev Devvarman in the opening round at Flushing Meadows.
