Tomas Berdych has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters by beating Ivo Karlovic in straight sets this morning.
The sixth seed, who made it to the final of the China Open last week, overcame his Croatian opponent 6-3 6-4 in a time of one hour and six minutes.
Having held his serve throughout the first set, Berdych wasted five set points before eventually seeing off Karlovic to take the opener.
The second set proved slightly less straightforward as Karlovic tried to keep up with the 29-year-old, but after holding his serve once more Berdych was able to secure his spot in the final eight.
Qualifier Malek Jaziri or Gilles Simon await in the next round.
