Roger Federer frustrated by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga defeat

Roger Federer says that Jo-Wilfried Tsonga deserved to beat him in the final of the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

Roger Federer has admitted that he wasn't good enough during his defeat to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final of the Rogers Cup.

The world number three was beaten 7-5 7-6 in Toronto and he has conceded that he deserved to lose to his French opponent.

"I was not playing good enough," he told reporters. "If you can't hit forehands or whatever, it's just... it wasn't my day."

"I definitely felt much further away from victory than he did. Naturally because of the scoreline – I mean, he was in the lead – but I just didn't feel like I was playing good enough to win today. It was just really frustrating the way I felt out there.

"I fought. I mixed it up, and I was hoping to sort of sneak in a set and then maybe he would get a bit nervous or maybe would play a bad game. But I just couldn't create enough opportunities. So I think he deserved to win at the end of the day."

Federer's last victory in the Rogers Cup came back in 2006 when he beat Richard Gasquet in the final.
