Result: Venus Williams into third round

Venus Williams books her place in the third round of the Miami Masters by beating Anna Schmiedlova.

Venus Williams has booked her place in the third round of the Miami Masters by beating Anna Schmiedlova this morning.

Williams - a three-time winner of the competition - inflicted two breaks of serve on her Slovakian counterpart en route to a 6-3 first-set victory.

Nothing separated the pair in the opening four games of the second set as both registered two games apiece.

However, the American's pedigree soon surfaced and Williams took four of the next five games to down the world number 73 6-3 6-3 and move into the next round.
