Rafael Nadal drops just four games on his way to knocking Nikolay Davydenko out of the Madrid Open.

World number two Rafael Nadal eased into round three of the Madrid Open courtesy of 6-2 6-2 victory over Russia's Nikolay Davydenko this afternoon.

Davydenko was made to work hard by Nadal during his opening service game, although he did eventually hold off the Spaniard's challenge to put himself 1-0 up.

However, Nadal won the next five service games to leave himself on the cusp of a one-set lead.

Davydenko made him wait by holding his serve for a second time, before Nadal served out.

Nadal took an early 2-0 lead in the second set, before Davydenko responded by holding his service game.

The set then went away from former world number one Davydenko once again as Nadal dropped just one more game on his way to advancing into the next round, where he will face either Fernando Verdasco or Alejandro Falla.
