World number 12 Feliciano Lopez loses in three sets to Dominic Thiem in the second round of the Miami Masters.

Feliciano Lopez succumbed to a three-set defeat to Dominic Thiem in the second round of the Miami Masters this evening.

The world number 12, ranked 40 places above his opponent, battled back to win the second set but eventually lost 7-6(4) 4-6 6-3.

The Spaniard started well as he raced into a 3-0 lead, but Thiem broke back midway through the first set to force a tie-break which he won 7-4.

Lopez again recorded the first break of the second set, and this time held firm on his own serve as he saved two break points in game eight on his way to levelling the match.

Two closely-fought games at the start of the third ended up deciding the contest, and Thiem won them both to secure the impressive scalp of the 10th seed.
