Maria Sharapova admits that she is not happy competing for non-Grand Slam titles.

Maria Sharapova has set her signs on winning more Grand Slam titles in the near future.

The Russian, who returned for a 15-month doping ban last year, has admitted that she is not satisfied competing in lower-ranked competitions.

"When you've experienced Grand Slam victories, it's absolutely natural to have that goal in your mind," Sharapova told CNN.

"It would be silly for me to say my goal for this year is to win a lower-tier tournament because I strive to be on the big stage and to win on the big stage.

"I've experienced it, and I know what it's like and I want that feeling again. I continue to work for that."

Sharapova, who has five Grand Slam crowns to her name, suffered a setback in her efforts to climb back up the world rankings after losing to Caroline Garcia 3-6 7-6(6) 6-4 at the Stuttgart Open this week.

The defeat saw the former world number one drop out of the top 50.
