Bad weather prevents play in Strasbourg

Rain washes out play in Strasbourg

Rain caused a washout at the Internationaux de Strasbourg on Tuesday, with bad weather also impacting the schedule at the Nuremberg Cup.

In France, fourth seed Caroline Garcia had been set to resume her match against American Shelby Rogers, which was tied at one set each, while number one seed Ashleigh Barty withdrew from the Strasbourg event because of a right arm injury.

However, no play was possible because of the inclement weather, which meant Wednesday's packed order of play will now see former champions Samantha Stosur, Caroline Garcia and Monica Puig all in action – if it stays dry.

At the Nuremberg Cup in Germany, there were also delays for rain, but some matches were able to be completed.

Home player Andrea Petkovic was able to progress to the second round as the eighth seed advanced with a 6-3 6-2 win over Cagla Buyukakcay of Turkey.

Romania's Laura Ioana Paar beat Dutchwoman Quirine Lemoine 6-1 6-3, while Slovenian Tamara Zidansek saw off Japan's Misaki Doi in three sets, 7-6 (4) 3-6 6-4.

In the only other first-round match to be completed, there was more home success as Germany's Anna-Lena Friedsam came from a set down to battle past Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu 4-6 6-3 6-3.

Wednesday's schedule has also seen a lot of matches held over, including that of defending champion Johanna Larsson's against Svetlana Kuznetsova and number three seed Ajla Tomljanovic versus Sabine Lisicki.

Czech player Kristyna Pliskova will be hoping to complete her match against qualifier Jule Niemeier, which she is leading 6-1 5-3.

Top seed Yulia Putintseva, the world number 39 from Kazakhstan, is set to face German Mona Barthel.
