Fabio Fognini makes it through to the semi-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters by defeating Richard Gasquet in straight sets.

Fabio Fognini has booked a place in the semi-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters at the expense of Richard Gasquet following a 7-6 6-2 victory.

The competitors were locked in a battle in the early stages of the opening set, with neither player being able to find a break point to take an advantage.

With games going by the way of serve, it took a tie-break to decide the first set, which Fognini dominated as Gasquet failed to get a single point on the board.

While Gasquet needed to fight back in the second set, Fognini's powerful shots and quick feet on the clay surface was too much to handle and the seventh seed stumbled to defeat.
