Virginie Razzano retires to send Carla Suarez Navarro through

French wildcard Virginie Razzano retires early in the second set to send Carla Suarez Navarro through to the third round of the French Open.

Spanish eighth seed Carla Suarez Navarro was given a simple path into the third round of the French Open this evening as Virginie Razzano retired early in the second set of their second-round encounter.

French wildcard Razzano, the world number 182, got off to a perfect start on the showpiece Philippe Chatrier court at Roland Garros by breaking Suarez Navarro in the opening game.

However, Suarez Navarro hit straight back and broke again to lead 5-3 before serving out the first set.

Razzano called for the trainer during the break between sets and, after being broken in the first game of the second, called it a day.

Suarez Navarro will face 28th-seed Flavia Pennetta in the third round.
