Bernard Tomic claims a three-set victory over Sam Querrey to secure a place in the next round in Melbourne.

Bernard Tomic has secured a spot in the third round of the Australian Open after a 6-3 3-6 6-7 3-6 victory over Sam Querrey.

Querrey started off the match on the front foot and managed to break his opponent to take the lead and win the first set rather comfortably.

Despite snatching the advantage, Tomic came into his stride and claimed the first three matches of the second set, indicating that he wasn't prepared to back down to his American opponent.

The 19-year-old continued to put pressure on Querrey, which resulted in a 6-3 win in the second set and drew the match level.

Neither competitor could force through a break of serve in the initial stages of the third set until the Australian pushed to claim the tie break and go two sets up over the 24-year-old.

It didn't take long for Tomic to tie up the contest and book his place in the third round of the competition.
