Kei Nishikori boosts his chances of qualifying for the semi-finals by beating David Ferrer in three sets.

Kei Nishikori has boosted his chances of qualifying for the semi-finals of the ATP World Tour Finals by beating David Ferrer in three sets.

Ferrer was a late replacement for the injured Milos Raonic and the Spaniard settled into the match straight away, winning the first set 6-4.

Nishikori fought back to win the second set 6-4, wrong-footing Ferrer with a delicate lob.

Ferrer began to show his frustration, lashing out at the court with his racket in between sets.

Nishikori took advantage and raced to win the final set 6-1, winning the match 4-6 6-4 6-1.

A straight-sets win for Andy Murray over Roger Federer later this evening is the only way Nishikori can miss out on qualification for the semi-finals.
