Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov wins table tennis gold

Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov comes from two games down to beat Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus in the men's table tennis singles final.

Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov has edged to a 4-3 win over Vladimir Samsonov of Belarus in the final of the men's table tennis singles at the European Games.

Samsonov got off to a bright start in the gold-medal match in the Baku Sports Hall, claiming the opening two games to leave the German chasing the match.

The 26-year-old responded well though, picking up the next two to level the scores, including an emphatic 11-3 success in game four.

The Belarusian edged back ahead after game five, but Ovtcharov finished strongly to wrap up the remaining two games of the final and secure his country's sixth gold of the Games.

The duo will be joined by Lei Kou of Ukraine on the podium after he beat Great Britain's Paul Drinkhall in the bronze-medal match earlier.
