Great Britain's Daniel Wallace has insisted that bringing down his time was not a priority when he took to the pool for this morning's 200m individual medley heats at the World Championships in Kazan.
Wallace impressed by finishing the race in 1:58.28, which has put him second fastest behind the USA's Ryan Lochte for tonight's semi-finals.
"That's a new best time for me so obviously it was a really good heat swim, but I really wasn't focused on the time there - it was just about making it on to the next stage," swimming.org quotes Wallace as saying.
"It was a good chance to race Ryan and the best in the world. I've been waiting to do that for four days so it's great to get there and race this morning."
After three days of competition, Britain sit second in the medal table with five, including two golds, while Australia also have five medals, but they lead the way with an extra gold.
