Mireia Belmonte Garcia wins thrilling women's 200m butterfly final

Spain's Mireia Belmonte Garcia beats Australia's Madeline Groves by three hundredths of a second to win the women's 200m butterfly final.

Spain's Mireia Belmonte Garcia has edged out Madeline Groves to win the women's 200m butterfly final at the Olympic Games.

In one of the races of the Games so far, Australian Groves set the pace over the first 100 metres but by the three-quarter mark, Belmonte Garcia had moved into the lead by 0.14 seconds.

Japan's Natsumi Hoshi came back into contention - which saw all three competitors challenging for gold during the final 25 metres - but Belmonte Garcia withstood the pressure to touch the wall just 0.03 seconds ahead of Groves to win Spain's first ever gold medal in the pool.

Hoshi comfortably held on to third position ahead of the USA's Camille Adams, who was almost three quarters of a second behind in fourth.
