Ross Murdoch beats Michael Jamieson to claim 200m breaststroke gold

Ross Murdoch edges out fellow Scot Michael Jamieson to claim the 200m breaststroke gold medal in Glasgow.

Ross Murdoch produced a surprise on the first evening in the pool to beat fellow Scot Michael Jamieson to gold in the 200m breaststroke final.

Jamieson was tipped as the favourite prior to the event, and looked in a strong position as the pair earned distance from the rest of the field on the third length.

However, Murdoch pulled away in the final 50m on his way to victory and a new Commonwealth Games record in Glasgow.

England's Andrew Willis claimed the bronze medal as the home nations continued their success on the opening day.
