Russia take World Championships gold in mixed duet free

Aleksandr Maltsev and Darina Valitova claim gold in the mixed duet free for Russia's sixth gold in seven synchronised swimming events at the FINA World Championships.

Russia's dominance of the synchronised swimming at the 16th FINA World Championships continued this evening as they took gold in the mixed duet free event.

Aleksandr Maltsev and Darina Valitova delighted the home crowd with a score of 91.7333 for their sixth gold in seven synchronised swimming events at the Championships.

It was extremely close for the gold, with Kristina Lum-Underwood and Bill May of the United States finishing 0.2666 behind the Russians. Giorgio Minisini and Virginie Dedieu of Italy took the bronze.

Russia also claimed gold in the other synchro final on day seven thanks to Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina in the women's duet free.
