Japan's Rina Akiyama has just edged out the competition to claim gold in the S11 100m backstroke final.

The world record holder could this time only manage a Paralympic record of 1:19.50 and she needed almost every hundredth of it.

Mary Fisher took silver for New Zealand with an Oceanic record of 1:19.50, while Cecilia Camellini of Italy won bronze with 1:19.50.
