Silver for Adam Peaty in 50m breaststroke

Adam Peaty is forced to settle for silver in the men's 50m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Adam Peaty has been pipped to gold by South Africa's Cameron van der Burgh in the men's 50m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

The 23-year-old was the hot favourite coming into the race, having already won gold in the 100m distance on Saturday, but Van der Burgh was able to hold on to his title after finishing four hundredths of a second faster than his rival in a time of 26.58 seconds.

Van der Burgh has now won the race for the last three Games in a row, while Peaty takes the silver for a second time after also finishing behind his opponent four years ago in Glasgow.

Peaty's Team England teammate James Wilby took the bronze medal with a time of 27.37 seconds, finishing just ahead of Aussie pair Jake Packard and James McKechnie.

Peaty will have one more shot at gold these Games when he takes part in the 4x100m medley race on Tuesday.
