England's Aimee Willmott pleased with performance after winning 400m IM heat

Aimee Willmott insists that she is "really happy" to have won her 400m individual medley heat in 4:39.50 to reach tonight's final.

Team England swimmer Aimee Willmott has insisted that she feels in good form heading into tonight's 400m individual medley final after winning her heat on the opening day of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The 21-year-old will fight for a medal against Team Scotland rival Hannah Miley, who secured a new Games record, after the Brit won the second heat in 4:39.50.

"I'm really happy with that," Willmott told reporters. "Obviously the first race of a meet is a challenge and you want normally to get in and get it out the way, but I'm pretty pleased with how that went this morning.

"I felt quite comfortable coming down the last 100m - I really tried to just stretch it out and just concentrate on keeping everything long."

England's Danielle Lowe has also qualified for the final having finished third in the second heat behind Willmott and Australia's Keryn McMaster.
