Siobhan-Marie O'Connor eyes gold in her "favourite" 200m medley event

Siobhan-Marie O'Connor admits to Sports Mole that she was "struggling" with fatigue, but is in the hunt for gold in her "favourite" 200m medley.

Team England's Siobhan-Marie O'Connor is aiming for her first Commonwealth Games gold medal in Glasgow, but has admitted that she is wary of the competitors around her.

The 18-year-old, who has already picked up three silver medals and a bronze this week, qualified comfortably for her strongest event - the 200m individual medley - in a time of 2:11.42 this morning.

O'Connor has already competed in eight races since the swimming began on Thursday, but the teen has insisted that she will not let fatigue get in her way.

"Last night I was struggling definitely," O'Connor told Sports Mole. "I wasn't too happy with my performance in the 4x200m [freestyle relay] , so it was just about putting that behind you and looking forward to today and the next few days.

"This is my favourite event, it's the one closest to my heart. If you've got a lane, you've got a chance, but there's some great girls in there, so we'll just see what happens tonight."

England currently have 16 swimming medals, while Wales have three, Scotland have six and Australia lead the way with 27.
