Ye Shiwen denies allegations of doping

Ye Shiwen denies taking any drugs to improve her performance following accusations of doping after she claimed gold in the 400m individual medley.

Chinese swimming prodigy Ye Shiwen has denied accusations that she is guilty of taking performance enhancers following her shock victory in the 400m women's individual medley.

The 16-year-old claimed the gold medal after a powerful surge in the final few metres of the race.

The win sparked controversy within the United States camp, with coach John Leonard claiming that the performance was "suspicious".

"My results come from hard work and training and I would never use any banned drugs," Ye told reporters. "The Chinese people have clean hands."

Ye is due to compete in the final of the 200m individual medley later this afternoon.
